Fishing at Manistee was decent today, although the bigger kings we have been seeing the last several weeks were hard to come by today and the last few days. Good numbers of kings in the 3-8 pound range, with an occasional laker are making up the catch. The kings came early today with the majority of fish taken before 9:00 am, but the lake was flat calm all morning and very bright, clear skies. Today’s best action was on spoons in the standard size, standard size stingers, and super slims. Mixed vegetable, modified blue dolphin, and blue and green Moonshine half meals took most of the fish. Riggers set 45-65 down with free sliders, and 5 and 10 color leads were our best (make sure to check your leads frequently, there are a good number of very small kings around that like to swim along on the leads). No bites on divers today, tried numerous spoons and a meat rig. Pulled one diver in favor of another 10 color lead core. Best depths today were over 130-200 FOW. Half of the fish taken today on our boat were full of small alewife.
